Among other things in Almodóvar's  films I love how he pulls tell-without-telling move.

In the "Átame" you get distracted by the picture for quite a while, in my case - till the end of the movie and a little bit more, when all of a sudden that untold darkness strikes you bright and clear. And the fascination holds while you unwinding the story back in your head to the moment of the real end and then it holds more over how that was done.
